Ready mix concrete calculator
Give the slab size, and pick how your plant sells. Your results show the yards to order and how many trucks you need. If you add a price, the results show the cost too.
How many yards of concrete in a truck?
| Thickness | Sq ft from 9 yd³ | Sq ft from 10 yd³ | Sq ft from 11 yd³ |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 in | 729 | 810 | 891 |
| 5 in | 583 | 648 | 713 |
| 6 in | 486 | 540 | 594 |
| 8 in | 365 | 405 | 446 |
According to Concrete Network, a typical truck mixer holds between 9 and 11 cubic yards. In the answer, each truck is treated as carrying 10 cubic yards. At a depth of 4 in, one 10-yard load covers 810 square feet. That is roughly a 27 by 30 ft pad.
How much ready mix concrete do I need to order?
Before you order, add your extra to the volume you calculated, then round the total up to whatever your plant sells next. If you order too little, another truck will be needed, and a cold joint forms where the two pours meet. Leftover concrete in small amounts costs far less.
What to tell the plant
- The total cubic yards you need, plus the arrival time you want for the first truck.
- Which mix you want, and if the truck can get to the forms.
- How far apart should the trucks be sent if you need more than one? Say 30 minutes, for example.
- Confirm the order on the day before the pour.
These ordering steps come from Concrete Network. It also notes that the truck should be emptied of its concrete within 1.5 hours of batching.
